Steeped in drama, Michigan, Texas get back to football in Citrus Bowl
Before the College Football Playoff bracket was complete, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian delivered a strong rebuke of the process, well aware the Longhorns weren’t in position to make the 12-team field. The two teams set to play in the Citrus Bowl in 2025, following a period of controversy that saw both Texas and Michigan lose their regular season games. The teams were overshadowed by the latter's dismissal of Sherrone Moore and arrest of coach Sherrone Moor for improper behavior. Despite this, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian defended his team's inclusion into the College Football Playoff bracket, stating that the team was not in position to make the 12-team field. The team's performances have been largely attributed to outside factors such as an improper relationship with a female football staffer and Moore's arrest. Michigan's interim coach, Biff Poggi, is currently serving as interim coach for the bowl game. Despite the controversy, Texas remains hopeful about playing in the upcoming Citrus bowl, with several key players opting out of the game due to injuries and suspensions.
