ERCOT predicts grid stability during solar eclipse despite lower solar energy

Texas' electric grid operator, ERCOT, continues to reassure Texans that they do not expect any grid reliability concerns during the total solar eclipse on April Texas' electric grid operator, ERCOT, has predicted grid stability during the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, despite lower solar energy. The impact of reduced solar generation during the eclipse will be reflected in forecasts beginning on April 1 and will continue to be updated hourly through the day of the eclipse. EERCOT has been forecasting models to reflect reduced solar power production, similar to a sunset and sunrise in the middle of the day. The grid operator plans to monitor grid conditions and keep the public informed.

Texas' electric grid operator, ERCOT, continues to reassure Texans that they do not expect any grid reliability concerns during the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.

ERCOT shared on social media that "the impact of reduced solar generation during the April 8 eclipse, between approximately 12:10 p.m. - 3:10 p.m., will be reflected in the forecasts generated beginning April 1, and will continue to be updated hourly through the day of the eclipse."

On Tuesday, ERCOT said despite the total solar eclipse passing over the ERCOT region, the team has been forecasting models to reflect reduced solar power production, similar to a sunset and sunrise in the middle of the day.

The grid operator says it will continue to monitor grid conditions and keep the public informed.
