In a surreal twist worthy of a scene from a sci-fi movie, Austin, Texas police made an arrest last week of a man whose name bears a striking resemblance to a legendary “Autobot” commander.
As reported by FOX 7 Austin, the Austin Police Department stated that 37-year-old Optimus Prime Blakely has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle as detailed in the arrest affidavit.
On the 4th of June, Blakely was pulled over by the officers when he was observed behind the wheel of a vehicle, recognized as stolen, while on Congress Avenue near Radam Lane.
The moniker “Optimus Prime” gained mainstream fame from the iconic 1980s television series Transformers, which later gained even more popularity through its transformation into a multi-million-dollar film franchise starring actors such as Mark Wahlberg and Megan Fox.
The transformative theme of the franchise sees alien robots taking on stealthy terrestrial forms ranging from vehicles to women’s accessories and insects, with the character Optimus Prime famously camouflaging himself as a red and blue semi-truck.
