Strong Winds on the Way

Breezes were a bit noticeable in the area today, but weren’t anything compared to what we’ll feel on Friday and Saturday. Strong winds are expected over the next two days, with sustained winds reaching up to 45 mph. This has led to a Red Flag Warning for the western half of the area. The fire danger will be elevated during these days, so keep fire safety tips in place. The wind gusts are expected to reach 50-55 mph on Saturday.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Breezes were a bit noticeable in the area today, but weren’t anything compared to what we’ll feel on Friday and Saturday. Winds will be sustained at about 20-30 mph with maximum gusts up to 45 mph at some points, which has prompted a Red Flag Warning for the western half of the area. Even stronger winds will enter the region Saturday, with maximum gusts up to 50-55 mph. The fire danger will be greatly elevated during these two days, so keeping the fire safety tips in mind (no cigarettes out the window, no unnecessary burning, no driving over dry grass, etc.) is absolutely crucial during this time.
