The study compared 50 of the most populous American cities in states where recreational marijuana use is legal to the total number of weed-friendly accommodations. It used listings from Bud and Breakfast, a marijuana-specific vacation rental site, and Airbnb to filter the number of "smoking allowed" and "entire home" listings. The number of listings was normalized to the census population size of each city and adjusted for the average nightly rates across these listings to identify cities with the most and less expensive 420-friendly accommodation. Boulder was the top city, with 104.3420-friendly rentals per 100K, while Portland offered 43.8 420-Friend rentals per100K. Meanwhile, Las Vegas offered a unique blend of luxury and cannabis-friendly options.

To ensure fairness in comparison, the number of listings was normalized to the census population size of each city, calculating the weed-friendly stays per 100,000 residents. The study also computed the average nightly rates across these listings to identify cities with the most and least expensive 420-friendly accommodations.
