How to dispose of your Christmas tree in Austin, Travis County for free

Austin and Travis County are offering free Christmas tree recycling, with curbside pickup, Zilker Park drop-offs and five county sites open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Austin and Travis County residents have several free and low-cost options to recycle natural holiday trees rather than sending them to landfill. Residents with city curbside collection can leave their Christmas trees at the curb on their regular composting or yard trimming collection day. Only natural trees are accepted, and trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half. Other residents can also drop off natural trees, wreaths and garlands at Zilker Park, where trees must be removed from decorations, lights, stands, metal hardware and plastic. The collected trees will be turned into mulch, which will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis.
